Problem: Fast fashion is taking over the world, producing massive amounts of cheap and short lived clothing. In order to produce cheap clothing they under pay, overwork, and mistreat employees (who are questionably underaged). They also pollute the environment with toxic waste & chemicals exposing wildlife, employees and the planet to all of these horrible things. On top of it they’re shipping overseas producing a MASSIVE carbon footprint. The $3 you spend on a shirt is paying for all of these horrible acts. Many of these cons get overlooked since fast fashion is so affordable, easy to find, size inclusive and has really cute clothing. But let's say you hear about these issues and decide to turn to sustainable fashion brands. Which are sustainably sourced, high quality, long lasting, are ethically produced, and actually care about people before profits. However, it can take hours to research actual sustainable shops and when you find one they're often expensive, really basic designs, difficult fabrics to care for, and not really widely available nor size inclusive.
If the average life of clothing was extended by just three months, it would reduce their carbon and water footprints, as well as waste generation, by 5 to 10%
Solution: Clearly there is a gap in the market. There are hardly any places to shop sustainable, ethical, affordable, fashionable, and size inclusive. 111 threads closes that gap by offering all of the cute clothes fast fashion sites have but with sustainable elements. Allowing customers an easy way to shop without compromising the money in their wallets, their sense of style, or the environment.
I strictly buy and accept second hand clothing and upcycle it into new on trend pieces that are affordable & size inclusive. I upcycle by either screen printing my designs on them, hand painting, bleaching, adding patchwork, or offering simple fixes/repairs.
